The question of sovereignty within the EU is well known. But does NATO also restrict the sovereignty of its member states? Last year, the deputy prime minister of the Netherlands made reference to ‘NATO obligations’ which, she said, prevented her from implementing certain policies, in this case concerning health. Very interesting. What are these obligations? FVD tried to find out. Pepijn van Houwelingen MP put down written questions to the government. It transpires that the new government was briefed about these in a meeting last July - at which no minutes were taken and whose content cannot therefore be communicated to the Dutch Parliament. So the policies of the government of the Netherlands depend on secret decisions taken by the previous Rutte government which cannot be scrutinised by the national representation. Worse, when Ralf Dekker MP called for a debate on this, ALL the political parties in Parliament (except FVD of course) voted against it. During his absence he will be replaced in the Chamber by Lidewij de Vos, with whom he co-authored a book,&nbsp;There is no one in the Cockpit, on the Netherlands’ bizarre policy against nitrogen – the pretext for forcing farmers to sell their land on which no doubt housing will be built for immigrants. Lidewij has given a brief interview laying out some of the book’s conclusions, the main ones being that the policy is both unnecessary and also stupid, to the extent that it demonstrates the herd mentality of politicians and scientists who for decades have been in hock to a bogus doomsday scenario. Even those not very familiar with the Bible can probably tell you about the parable of the Prodigal Son, or the Lost Sheep. Two thousand years later, it seems we still need simple stories to highlight complex ideas. Thus we now have the parable of ‘How Liz Truss trashed the economy’ and certainly, if the&nbsp;Daily Telegraph is to be believed,<a href="https://www.telegraph.co.uk/business/2025/01/10/rachel-reeves-can-run-but-her-fate-is-sealed/"> we have the parable of Rachel Reeves ‘running to China as the economy burned</a>’.The biblical parables were Jesus’s way of illustrating ideas and truths in a manner we can understand. They are eternal. The problem with these modern equivalents is that they often entirely misrepresent the truth for political purposes.It suits the cognoscenti to believe that the wicked Liz Truss, despite the fact she was PM for only 50 days, single-handedly trashed the economy. It serves a number of purposes. It hides the numerous errors prior to her office and neatly transfers the country’s ills on to her. It was fine before ‘that woman’ is the subliminal message.&nbsp;It also acts as a grievous warning that woe betide anyone stupid enough to try to grow the economy through tax cuts. It’s a parable against the alleged follies of free market economics. It simply acts as a popular beacon to alleged folly.Similarly we hear from the&nbsp;Telegraph that Rachel Reeves might be even worse than Truss, as if the two were comparable, when clearly the policy responses of the two were polar opposites. One wished to cut taxes and regulation, the other rewarded public sector workers handsomely while raising a number of vindictive and short-sighted taxes. Can they both be such bogeywomen?What the&nbsp;Telegraph&nbsp;and others are doing with this analysis is pointing the blame at the last one holding the parcel while absolving themselves of any analysis as to why the parcel may have blown up on their watch.To be clear, I am no fan of Rachel Reeves. I thought her Budget was illiterate. It rewarded public sector failure handsomely with no regard to productivity while allegedly increasing the tax take by some £40billion. I say ‘allegedly’ because it won’t raise anything like that much as the economy slides into recession, while causing substantial pain to working people through higher employer National Insurance charges and vindictive taxes on those opting out of state education, to give but two examples.&nbsp;It will be a clear lesson in&nbsp;<a href="https://www.investopedia.com/terms/l/laffercurve.asp">Laffer Curve economics</a>. Reeves is a very poor chancellor but to suggest she is the architect of the country’s economic woes is absurd. Compounding them, yes, but the architect? Absolutely not. She is merely holding the parcel as the bomb goes off.Why so? Britain’s malaise is not new. While a case could be made that John Major started the rot, the real watershed moment came with the election of Tony Blair. He, with Gordon Brown, set the UK on a path to delusion.&nbsp;Brown promised prudence, but Labour’s inheritance was strong so at first blowing money on state interventionist legislative programmes while starting the process of raising taxes went largely unnoticed. Further, critically breaking the cultural consensus of the land which in time had real economic and social impacts that are only now being fully felt, slowly but surely corrupted the edifice.Worse, they set up a judicial legal state surrounded by a shell of quangos and sympathetic media, academia and judiciary, thus embedding an increasingly far leftist technocratic iron grip. The tragedy was that the Conservatives, with a sort of craven crush on Blair the political master, not only embedded New Labour’s toxic legacy but greatly strengthened it.&nbsp;The policy choices over the last 25-odd years have been disastrous, but it took two major events to show that the Emperor had no clothes. The first was the 2008 global financial crisis, which arguably came about as a result in the US of Clintonesque early woke ideology encouraging banks to lend where they should not have.&nbsp;The result was a massive monetary distortion: printing an initial £450billion and, as disastrously, running a monetary policy for a decade and more of near-free money. This was the gateway to public spending delusion.&nbsp;The narrative of the then Conservative Chancellor George Osborne was of austerity, presumably to appease bond markets when the reality was that, while there was a degree of spending control, at no point did public spending fall in real terms.The second disaster was lockdown. The response may have been largely global but the Government’s response was extreme even by deluded global standards. A further printing of another £450billion, furlough and the weakening of the work ethic, a massive expansion of the State to the tune of £200billion (in real terms), the dismantling of any semblance of border controls which has been hugely expensive in terms of the public purse and an overdrive in regulation focusing on Net Zero, DEI (Diversity, Equity, Inclusion) and massively increasing the minimum wage undermined the edifice.The scale of this delusion, which the authors of this policy still seem not to understand, is unprecedented in peacetime. First gradually and then quickly Britain abandoned free market economics – from the point when the private sector was in the lead, accounting for over two-thirds of the economy, to accounting for just half of it today.That productive half is increasingly hamstrung through a network of regulation and direction which would have been impossible to comprehend just a few years ago. From messing up the owned and rental housing market, the undermining of energy policy (so UK industry is paying four times as much for power as our US competitors despite the UK being blessed with substantial carbon assets) to directing the banks through extraordinary levels of regulation is inexcusable; the list goes on. Hardly a single rational decision.&nbsp;Theresa May’s ‘nasty party’ hurt and boy, did the Tories decide to appease every interest that they should not have in a craven desire to be liked by those who would never like them. Boris Johnson may have been a showman and a credible communicator but the policy response was catastrophic. Debt on debt, regulation on regulation, DEI on DEI.&nbsp;Truss’s attempt to gradually unwind this terrible mess, modest as her £40billion tax cut proposal was, was initially lauded by the City but met with horror by the very establishment who have taken the nation to the point of bankruptcy, literally. Unlike the parable of the Good Samaritan, they walked on by.&nbsp;Reeves’s Budget was bad and mad but in truth, while a bit more vindictive than most, the magnitude of public spending increase is a fraction of what Johnson was responsible for while the tax rises, according to the Office for Budget Responsibility (OBR), are in fact a magnitude of increase slightly less than Sunak and Hunt burdened us with.&nbsp;However, the harsh reality now is there is no way back for Reeves. She may stumble for a while yet but the UK economy is not going to grow, confidence is shot and with that tax receipts will stagnate just as Reeves’s spending is out of control. It is going to get rather worse for her and all of us.The OBR sees a fiscal deficit of £124billion this year falling to £107billion, then £95billion and less. To say this is optimistic is an understatement. Reeves is going to be forced back for yet more, which will further injure the golden goose.&nbsp;There is no happy ending to this. The delusion is too great. Now, however, the US has launched a broadside with the intellectual climate changing 180 degrees. Reeves will choose the wrong partner, getting into bed with the EU, but unfortunately for her this will simply make matters worse.&nbsp;The Conservatives say ‘we told you so’. No they didn’t. They are entirely complicit in this mess. Continuing the biblical theme, a road to Damascus conversion might be welcomed but far too many in that party cannot see the cliff edge ahead.The status quo simply cannot hold. Change will be forced. Reeves might be holding the parcel when the bomb goes off, but had she any understanding of economics she would see the writing on the wall and act with substantial spending cuts before it is forced on her, as they will be. There is no free money any more. We are all going to pay a large price without an urgent change of direction.

Rachel Reeves and the parable of the last one holding the parcel

FVD MP Pepijn van Houwelingen has written to the Dutch government asking about ‘NATO commitments’ referred to by the Deputy Prime Minister, Fleur Agema from Geert Wilders’ Freedom party.It transpires that ministers were briefed on these obligations by the Dutch secret service AIVD and the NCTV (National Coordinator for Security and Counterterrorism) a few weeks after taking office, on the initiative of the Ministry of General Affairs.This briefing was given at the Ministry of General Affairs and may not (!) be shared with the House of Representatives because of its classification. This briefing is therefore secret.Rutte committed the Netherlands to these NATO commitments at the July 2023 NATO summit.These NATO commitments (in all areas imaginable, such as energy, reception, care, transport) are being mapped and worked out ‘cabinet-wide’ by the NCTV.In his questions, Pepijn van Houwelingen refers to the fact that the briefing was given to the whole Cabinet but that no minutes were taken.&nbsp; No minutes can therefore be shared with the Lower House of the Dutch Parliament.Mr van Houwelingen asked what these commitments are.This is the response he received:&nbsp;Document:АН 998&nbsp;2024Z17413Answer given by Minister Agema (Health, Welfare and Sport) (received 10 January 2025)&nbsp;Question 1:&nbsp;By whom were you briefed at the time?&nbsp;Answer question 1:&nbsp;A number of briefings took place in the first weeks after I took office. At the NATO Summit in July 2023, the Netherlands committed to the NATO-wide Resilience Objectives (RO)'s, reflected in the Vilnius Summit Communiqué.¹ These concern a specification of the seven baseline requirements previously identified by NATO, which reflect a baseline level in seven civilian preparedness areas: continuity of government, energy supply, large-scale reception of persons, livelihoods, reception of the wounded, (tele)communications and transport. There is, however, a strong political and strategic expectation among NATO allies that countries show solidarity and respond together to ensure the security of the alliance.&nbsp;Question 11:&nbsp;Finally, you speak in this context of an ‘inventory’ that ‘will be done under the direction of the NCTV’, when is this inventory expected to be ready? Can the Chamber receive this inventory?&nbsp;Answer question 11:&nbsp;The Coalition Programme includes the Cabinet-wide commitment to strengthening In societal resilience. The Cabinet-wide resilience policy against military and hybrid threats has been further developed in recent months under the coordination of the National Coordinator for Counterterrorism and Security (NCTV) and the Ministry of Defence. This is specifically aimed at increasing resilience against military and hybrid threats, but the policy is also applicable in case of other disasters and crises. The resilience policy consists of various policy areas under the responsibility of the relevant line ministries and their ministers. For instance, the resilience task of VWS will also be involved in this process. Your Chamber will be informed about this at the end of 2024.&nbsp;&nbsp;The issue was then raised in the Chamber by another FVD MP, Ralf Dekker, on 14 January.&nbsp; Here is what Ralf Dekker MP said:Dear Chairman,At the end of October last year, Health Minister Agema stated in a debate here in this Chamber that, unfortunately, she cannot implement her desired policy (regarding ‘pandemic preparedness’) because she is bound by ‘NATO obligations’. This is, of course, very remarkable. Forum for Democracy therefore submitted written questions on this and we were shocked by the answers we received on Friday.What emerged? Ministers were informed shortly after taking office at the Ministry of General Affairs in a briefing by the AIVD and NCTV what their ‘NATO obligations’ are. This briefing of&nbsp; the cabinet, let it be known, is secret, also for the Lower House. This means, Chairman, that not this House but apparently NATO and the intelligence services in the last instance secretly determine how this country is governed without the House of Representatives being able to exercise any control over this.Needless to say, this is unacceptable and therefore we would like a debate on this as soon as possible with the Prime Minister and Minister Agema who, after all, has repeatedly indicated in this Chamber that she is bound by ‘NATO obligations’ against her will.&nbsp;The same day, this request for a debate on the matter was rejected by all parties in Lower House of the Dutch Parliament, except FVD naturally.What are they trying to hide?

Questions about the secret NATO obligations Mark Rutte signed while in office

FVD has not been on holiday during the holidays. At the end of December, a peace demonstration was held in Amsterdam to protest against the Ukraine war and the West’s continuing intervention in it. Two of FVD’s members of parliament attended, Gideon van Meijeren and Pepijn van Houwelingen. They were interviewed by a Dutch journalist and we have subtitled their answers. The questions were not low-lobs – and the answers were not simplistic. On the contrary ! AfD is FVD’s sister party in the Europe of Sovereign Nations grouping based in the European Parliament. Musk has tweeted his support for the AfD and has expressed a desire to see the party win next month’s elections. Opinion polls have for some time now put the AfD in second place, above the governing Social Democrats. Of course it is to be expected that the Christian Democrats and Social Democrats and Greens will again create a&nbsp;cordon sanitaire to prevent the AfD from taking power, as the equivalent parties have done for decades in France against the&nbsp;Front National (now ‘Rassemblement National’). On the other hand, this policy has just collapsed in neighbouring Austria. Just as&nbsp;Stern magazine in Germany this week has equated Elon Musk with Vladimir Putin in their supposed combined ‘attack on our democracy’ – FVD thinks it is the current political system which stifles democracy - so Jean-Marie Le Pen’s surprise victory in the first round of the 2002 presidential election in France seemed to be an earthquake at the time. Le Pen died this week, nearly 23 years later, but his name continues to stir controversy: hoodlums let off fireworks in Paris in celebration at his death. Back in 2002, John Laughland was the only international journalist to get access to Le Pen between the two rounds of the election. FVD is this week re-printing the article he published then (commissioned by the then editor of The Spectator, Boris Johnson…) largely to emphasise that the Hitlerisation of political debate is at least a quarter of a century old. The Spectator, 27 April 2002To commemorate his passing at the age of 96, FVD is re-printing this interview with Jean-Marie Le Pen which John Laughland conducted for The Spectator in the period between the two rounds of the French presidential election in 2002. Le Pen sensationally beat the incumbent prime minister, Lionel Jospin, making it through to the run-off vote, where he faced the incumbent president Jacques Chirac who was duly re-elected with a score of 82%.If there is calm in the eye of the storm, it was certainly to be found at Jean-Marie Le Pen's sumptuous villa in Saint-Cloud, Paris, on Tuesday afternoon. In the world outside, the international media reverberated with an orgiastic denunciation of the man the world loves to hate: in Parc Montretout, the brisk click of the sprinklers on the immaculate lawns, and the distant cry of a peacock were the only sounds to disturb the fragrant spring air. A Dobermann lying on the gravel looked at me lazily as it basked in the sun.Jean-Marie Le Pen's office, which commands a magnificent view of the city, contains an appealing jumble of old telescopes, icons, Louis XV chairs and a statue of St Joan of Arc. I hand him my card. 'You are from the land of the laughs,' he quips, roaring with laughter himself, and throwing his head back so that the trademark chin sticks out horizontally.In order to kick off the conversation on a theme he likes — Europe — I show him a map recently published by the European Parliament. All the great nations of Europe are cut up into little pseudo-ethnic sub-regions, but there is a huge Grossdeutschland in the middle, incorporating Alsace, Austria and most of Switzerland. It is published by the Radical Group. 'These people are Radically Bankers,' says Le Pen, collapsing in another thunderous chuckle. 'The same people who are in favour of quickie divorces are trying to weld together the ancient nations of Europe in a perpetual marriage. What are they going to do if we want to leave the EU? Send in the Wehrmacht? The Germans suffered a lot at the end of the war. It was their own fault, of course. But now they want to take their revenge, and so Europe will be dominated by Germany — America's most obedient ally.'Le Pen means 'the boss' in old Breton but his allure is boyish. The official hagiography has sepia photos of little Le Pen in shorts — on the beach, in boats, chaperoned by ladies in hats and by grim Jesuits in soutanes — and, aged eight, the wicked grin is already distinctly recognisable. But the caption says, 'A vision of France as it used to be', and this is the point: Le Pen is a man gripped by an apocalyptic vision of France's national, political, social and moral decline but through whose deep pessimism there constantly erupts a desire to laugh, and a sharp urge to provoke or even to shock. The various attempts on his life have done nothing to deter him. 'It's not me who has become extreme Right,' he says. 'It's the whole of society which has become extreme Left. They put me in jack boots and a helmet and say I am Hitler. But they have been doing that for 50 years now. That's the only way they can try to get me because I haven't had my hands in the till. But when I was 16, 1 took my father's revolver and joined the Resistance. I'm not saying I was a great hero. But what little I did was on the right side.'Le Pen sees himself as the man who sticks up for little people against the big guns of the French political establishment. His victory speech on Sunday night sounded like the Sermon on the Mount, so often did he refer to the poor and the meek. He refers to all his most notorious remarks, like the one about the gas chambers being 'a detail in the history of the second world war' (a comment for which he later apologised, and which he claims was misunderstood in the first place) as being nothing but the result of political provocations manufactured by his very numerous enemies. 'You must realise,' he tells me, 'that my victory was won by someone who does not have one hundredth of the means at the disposal of my adversaries. I would be 10 per cent ahead of them if I did. But nothing is lost,' he says, referring to the second round on 5 May. 'I have a 10 per cent chance of winning. The gaggle of media sycophants' — whenever he insults anyone, which is often, each rude word is savoured slowly in a crescendo — 'which, by the way, is totally dominated by Marxists and which is a nauseating world I hold in utter contempt, immediately rushed to support Chirac. It means that Chirac has now been formally crowned as the uncontested leader of the French Left. The Communist party, the Trotskyites, the Socialists, the Freemasons, the Unions — they have all acclaimed him as the godfather of their Mafia. But I am the candidate of France — against euro-globalisation!'In any case,' he adds, 'this is not a French presidential election. It is an election for the governor of Kansas. In fact, it's worse. Kansas can at least decide to reintroduce the death penalty' — something Le Pen regards as the 'indispensable cornerstone of any penal system' — 'but, here, we have made so many compromises on national sovereignty that we are no longer an independent state. Indeed,' he gestures through the open French doors to the city of Paris outside, 'huge cities and massive migratory flows are the two sure signs that a society is dying. If nations are mortal. as Valery writes, they all die in the same way. Did you know that Babylon had a peripheral avenue three times longer than the Paris&nbsp;péripherique?’ Apart from this brief reference, he does not mention immigration. Various French acquaintances I consulted before the interview confirmed that immigration formed little or no part of his presidential campaign. le Pen is not a racist,' said one. 'It's only the other parties who talk about immigration now. said another. Le Pen's campaign was based instead on law and order, unemployment, and on his policy of abolishing income tax. 'Why am I so viciously attacked in the British press?' he asks me. Le Pen's views on immigration are the same as Norman Tebbit's, while his views on urban blight, social collapse and the decline of traditional values can be found every week in the columns of the Daily Mail or The Spectator. The Sun, for that matter, has spent the week enumerating Le Pen's various hateful policies, such as closing the refugee centre at Sangatte or opposing the right of homosexuals to adopt children, but the obligatory photograph of Hitler with which it adorned the rant did little to distinguish the list from everything The Sun itself generally supports. Le Pen accuses the Left of exploiting the immigrant as its new totem in the place of the worker, but without really ever having cared for either. 'What makes me sad,' he has written, 'is that the great majority of the immigrant community just wants to live in peace, and yet the Left takes up an immigrant cause which is in reality only that of a minority of delinquents.' But the idea that Le Pen proposes to ethnically cleanse France of its present immigrant population is nonsense.When people in this country ask, 'Could it happen here?', the answer depends on what you mean by 'it' and 'happen'. Leaving aside the important historical fact that the far Right in France is strong when Gaullism is weak, and vice versa — it fills the political vacuum left by the weakening of that state authority which the French so ardently crave — the political earthquake on 21 April was not the sudden rise of the Front National. Le Pen's party has had very solid support for years, and on Sunday it polled only slightly more than it did in 1995 and 1997. Instead, the truly momentous event was the electoral humiliation of the governing duopoly. The candidate of the Socialist party which has ruled France for the last five years polled 16 per cent: this is less than half the level at which a British government would be considered to be in catastrophic crisis. Meanwhile, the 'President of all the French' is supported by less than one in five of them. Despite this, France's political system is so deeply dysfunctional that the same old politicians who were discredited on Sunday will probably be re-elected to power as if nothing had happened. People forget what a remorseless merry-go-round French politics is: Jacques Chirac, the man who on 5 May will be elected to another five years of judicial immunity, first served as prime minister when Harold Wilson was in No. 10 Downing Street.Indeed, the esteem in which the French political class is held by its own supporters was encapsulated with depressing frankness by the slogans which schoolchildren were made to parade around the streets on Monday: ‘Votez escro, pas facho!’ — 'Vote for a crook, not a fascist.' What a choice! Le Pen, meanwhile, heaps contempt on the whole miserable band of palm-greasers, opportunists and back-scratchers. But in any case, the first round of any French election is the political equivalent of a punt on the 2.15 at Doncaster: it makes no difference to the final outcome, and is merely a chance to have a flutter on one's own little personal exotic fantasy. When I put it to my friends that the world thought Le Pen was within reach of power, they laughed in derision.For that matter, Le Pen gave me the distinct impression of not being particularly interested in power himself. 'You know,' he said, with a backward wave of the hand, 'great historical events are the result of a concatenation of people and of Providence. I have spent all my life fighting losing battles, starting in Indochina. As St Joan of Arc said. "You fight, you fight — and maybe one day God will hand you victory."' The reference to St Joan is not the only time Le Pen displays a rather mystical quality. 'I can foresee things,' he tells me, 'because I stand up straight, instead of staring at my navel like most politicians. I have spent seven years of my life at sea; I have sailed the oceans and stared at an infinitesimal part of the billions and billions of stars in the heavens. My beliefs are simple ones. I believe in the nation and the family. Together with the nation, the family is the crucible for what little possibilities there are for human happiness. Society must have certain fundamental values or else there can be no personal development. I see all this in constant decline.’'And another thing,' he says, drawing our conversation to a close, 'You'll think this is odd, coming from a politician in the middle of an election campaign. But I regard it as pre-apocalyptic that people are, right now, fighting around the stable of Jesus. If there is a massacre at the Church of the Nativity, if blood is shed, I will take that as a serious sign, as a warning from Heaven. But life must go on,’ he says - and giggles.

Jean-Marie Le Pen: 'WHY DOES EVERYBODY HATE ME?'

Alternative für Deutschland (AfD), the conservative right-wing party in Germany which first stood for election in the national Bundestag elections in September 2013, has been a staple of German politics ever since. Following their founding in February 2013, the party has been maligned and stigmatised as ‘radical right-wing’, ‘Islamophobic’, ‘anti-Western’ and with ‘strong ties to Russia’. Yet the AfD has grown steadily, making clear its positions for a stronger Germany while maintaining traditional values.&nbsp;After decades of policies where right-wing voices were supposedly safeguarded by parties like the CDU/CSU (Christian Democrats) and the FDP (Liberal Democrats), not only the left-wing parties but also these parties have started to become nervous of being exposed. Very soon, all parties created a cordon sanitaire around the AfD in the hope that the population would not want to identify with it. This was partly successful in the beginning, but slowly people began to realise that it is very strange that CDU/CSU and FDP do not want to cooperate with the AfD, whereas their right-wing ideas where Germany should go seem to be very closely aligned. People started to see that despite rhetoric on closed borders, tax cuts, protecting or even promoting growth of the economy, preserving energy and gas, the people in government coalitions were doing exactly the opposite. The proof of this betrayal was provided by the FDP. The FDP joined forces with the far-left Greens and the social democratic SPD in December 2021 – an apparent example of political suicide. From the very beginning, fights broke out between these two left-wing parties and the FDP. This eventually resulted in the resignation of the Finance Minister and FDP party leader, Christian Lindner last year. Since then, the FDP has been below the 5% electoral threshold in the polls and the party's future looks bleak.That every effort is being made to ‘keep the AfD small’ was evident in January and February 2024 when large protests ‘against the radical right’ were organised, with even Chancellor Olaf Scholz leading one of them. These demonstrations were in response to a publication by the ‘research platform’ Correctiv which reported that the AfD had spoken to an Austrian extremist about mass deportations of millions of foreigners if the party came to power. It soon emerged that not only was this total nonsense, but thanks to real journalists, it became clear that it was yet another attempt by the Scholz government to put the AfD in a bad light. Taxpayers' money was allegedly used to stage the protests. They allegedly used taxpayers’ money to stage the protests&nbsp;and tricked around 300,000 naive demonstrators to participate. According to some sources, they even paid these protesters. Footage has surfaced where people, on arriving at the protest site, were shocked by the real purpose of this demonstration, then turned around and went home. But the anti-AfD demonstrations quickly neutralised the genuine anti-government farmers’ protests as a side effect.&nbsp;The AfD is looking beyond the delusions of the day and is fully concentrating on perhaps the most important Bundestag elections since World War II, after the failure of the worst government Germany has had in 80 years, according to public opinion in Germany and abroad. Alice Weidel was still modest about the AfD's chances in November but developments are following each other at a furious pace. The reality might be entirely different in a few months. With even foreign leaders getting involved in Germany, the focus is starting to move more and more towards the AfD. First, Elon Musk reported on his own platform X with the clear post: ‘Germany can only be saved with Alice Weidel as Chancellor.’ The whole establishment was turned upside down. Things got even worse for them when Weidel was the only Member of Parliament invited to Donald Trump's inauguration on 20 January. The European Commission has announced censoring ‘disinformation’ as its biggest goal for 2025, and posts like Musk's could then be a reason for them to censor or even ban X.&nbsp;Even Putin has now interfered in the upcoming German elections by announcing that as far as he is concerned, all old gas supply contracts from early 2022 can be reactivated immediately if Weidel becomes Chancellor. So back to the cheap energy which everyone craves! With this, Putin is clearly showing that the sky-high energy costs suffered by Germans could come down very quickly if Germans will make a wise choice in February. In doing so, he is also showing that the narrative proclaimed in recent years, that unaffordable energy was solely Putin's fault, could very quickly have taken a different turn if instead of opting for ever further sanctions on Russia, they entered into talks as equal partners.&nbsp;The genie is out of the bottle. Increasingly, people are realising they have been lied to.&nbsp; People in Eastern Germany in particular are leading the way in waking up the rest of the country to the realisation that the current course of Germany is hazardous.With rising AfD polls and increasing nervousness among the other parties, it is inevitable that mistakes will be made in the panic. For instance, Friedrich Merz of the CDU recently said he considers it possible that Robert Habeck (the Greens) could once again be given the role of Minister of Economic Affairs in a cabinet with him as Chancellor. Appointing the architect of the country's near collapse to this post once more would almost certainly be the economic death blow for Germany. Markus Söder, prime minister of Bavaria and chairman of the CSU was vocal about the fact that he would never accept this, after which Merz immediately backed down. In doing so, he clearly showed that his personal ambitions have&nbsp;nothing to do with saving the country.With a grasp of the party programme, one would think that citizens would be left with virtually no arguments not to vote AfD:-End wars and their funding; no US missiles on German soil.&nbsp;-Cheap energy from Russia; stop the ‘green transition’.-Drastic tax cuts for citizens and companies so that citizens can make ends meet on their salaries and companies can invest again.-Return illegal immigrants and those who profit structurally from benefits, and do not want to contribute to the economy, to their country of origin.-Spend the tens of billions of euros that disappear abroad each year, often for nonsensical ‘projects’, in their own country and on their own population. The transfer half a billion Euros to Peru for the construction of bicycle paths, when only the elite there can afford a bicycle, is over as far as the AfD is concerned.&nbsp;It is now becoming visible that the other parties are secretly adopting AfD positions in the hope no one notices their 180-degree turn. Where citizens had to deal with higher and higher taxes, the SPD now suddenly wants tax cuts. They also now suddenly want to help businesses with billions of euros in subsidies. Whether citizens believe this is highly questionable.&nbsp;A very important point where the AfD stands head and shoulders above the rest is the fact that all parliamentarians have completed one or more university studies. The Greens in particular have huge gaps here.It is not only the AfD that goes full steam ahead. Elsewhere in Europe countries are also making big turns to the right. Romanian independent politician Calin Georgescu, for instance, was seen as hopeless in the presidential elections in December, but he won as much as 23% of the vote and could undoubtedly have won in the second round. The establishment was quick to blame ‘interference’ from Russia. Under pressure from the EU, the second round was cancelled and the court declared the result of the first as invalid. In the polls, Georgescu has now risen to 40 percent and this shows that not everything is fixable.&nbsp;In Georgia, too, the right-wing and now sworn-in new president Micheil Kavelashvili is a thorn in the EU's side, but the staged mock protests, while long-lasting, have now all but died out.In Austria, where the right-wing FPÖ won the elections in September with flying colours, people also thought they could use a cordon sanitaire to exclude the FPÖ from coalition negotiations. Suddenly, the negotiations came to nothing and President Alexander Van der Bellen ordered the FPÖ to attempt to form a government. Whether the other parties make the right choice or push for new elections remains to be seen, but the chances of the FPÖ becoming even bigger when that happens, are, as has been shown elsewhere, huge.&nbsp;The right-wing European tanker has taken a very long time to get on course due to the enormous opposition, but by all appearances it has succeeded and whether this process can be reversed quickly by the establishment seems very unlikely.

A religion for losers?

Our own Sid Lukkassen is currently traveling through South America and writes about his experiences. The first story of Sid’s traveling log can be found&nbsp;<a href="https://fvdinternational.com/article/the-hopium-Austrian">here</a>.At the height of some Latin festival, I ended up in a flat in sun-drenched Asunción. There, I enjoyed a cool glass of water in conversation with host Jim Cambios, CEO of local foreign exchange company ‘J&amp;M Cambios’. A lesbian couple also chimed in – interest was high as the topic was nothing less than ‘True Love’.The local expat community, united in the ‘Men's Health Group’, urged us to record this conversation. Unfortunately, the technology present was not adequate for this purpose. However, nothing prevents me from making the content of the conversation public afterwards – here it is. It really was a conversation where you want to buckle your seatbelt beforehand.Transactional model Love is fundamentally a transaction, Jim argued, referring to a YouTube video by a psychologist. Before I will respond to it, I want to clarify the foundations of his argument.If you exchange a dollar and you get exactly one dollar in return, why make that exchange at all? Then you are pumping attention and energy into a transaction that will not take you forward. An exchange is something you enter into because you think it will benefit you. So this is where the slogan comes from, ‘there is no such thing as fair trade’.If we extend this to the relational sphere, one ends up in the situation where women are attracted to men who accumulate a lot of resources. Older men have had much more time to accumulate resources and build up skills, making them more attractive than younger men.Men, on the other hand, usually pick a woman on beauty, and in this respect younger women tend to be more attractive than older ones. So by definition you get age inequality in relationships, and it is typical that only the West is hypocritical and moralistically aggravated about this. Thus Jim’s argument.Coffee bar analogy It should be added that a woman can go down the path of career, of business success and earning money – thus competing within a hierarchy where masculine traits are paramount. But then comes the time to find a partner; now she knocks on the door of the men she finds attractive. These are men who probably already have financial security and status, and are mainly looking for feminine beauty. Now it is like she arrives with a jug of coffee in a coffee bar: “Nice, that coffee.” the bar owner says. “But I already have that. Don’t bring me coffee, bring me money.”The moment had come for Doctor Sid to respond. The lesbian couple listened with bated breath – what politically-incorrect talk would follow next?Since yes, what is there really to argue against such solid reasoning? Yet my intuition told me that something was wrong, that I had to contradict Jim Cambios. My intuition led me to kickboxing, which I started talking about, without actually knowing why. But I trusted my intuition – things were going to work out.Kickboxing To be a decent kickboxer, you need a number of virtues. These are courage, discipline and perseverance. Because after all, you are going to take hits and must not give up, otherwise you will never learn. After several years of intensive training, the sport becomes part of your system. The rhythm of movement becomes part of your nervous system, your cognition: it becomes a ‘glue’ between body and mind; a glue that makes everything more solid and fierce. You know you are capable of manifesting explosive and overwhelming power.Such a skill then becomes so deeply internalised that it becomes part of your self-confidence. You know that whatever dregs life throws at you, that you are no wimp, that you can deal blows and take them, that you are tried and tested, that you have shown balls. Even if you step into a crowded train where there is an aggressive atmosphere, you are not easily shaken, because the strength is deep within yourself.And so from this strength, from this deeply tested self-esteem, you also defy all the games, all the push-pull bullshit and time-wasting ‘guessing games’ that women unleash on the dating scene and relationship market. To reach your level of self-confidence, agility and explosive power, you have had to invest hundreds, thousands of hours of persistence. What does the woman invest in the quality she arrives with? Her beauty? Usually her investments are limited and the beauty is most often a quality imparted by nature. It is mostly her youthfulness, and maybe she spends a few hours a month at the nail salon and hairdresser.From that situation, you can no longer take seriously the woman who is playing ‘hard to get’ with you. She ]probably has had to make hardly any sacrifices to be found attractive by men and still she thinks she can play games with you. One could argue that this is a ‘category mistake’ – that prowess in a combat sport cannot be transmuted to the social field of the dating market. But once one has traversed so far on that arduous path of inner discipline, one loses all tolerance for those who waste your time with manipulative social games.&nbsp;The problem of easy money Jim Cambios is right in saying that men in their fifties and sixties can certainly still come home with hot dates. And it gets worse – as a fascinating side effect – because those young women often get some money thrown at them by their older partners. And that extra money raises their standard of living; they get used to it. Once they attempt to date men in their own age group, they get stressed out in relation to their spending habits. This is why they keep dating older men ‘on the side’. With older men for whom those extra funds they hand over to their younger mistresses is usually little money.This is similar to the emancipation of black groups in the US. Halfway in the last century, things were in relatively good shape: most blacks lived in traditionally constituted families and had internalised the values of bourgeois capitalism. But then leftist ideas became popular and the welfare state came along with free money. This changed the work ethic as well as spending patterns, and things went awry again. The same applies to young women dating older men.True love is increasingly difficult to obtain The point of kickboxing and that free money, therefore, is that you are&nbsp;not on an equal platform with that woman you attract or take on as your partner. The older, richer man goes with her because she is young, slim, pretty and a bit sweet, but actually her internal qualities – qualities that really&nbsp;take effort to make your own within life – are often not that well developed. This makes it very difficult, if not impossible, to feel true love. This transactional analysis, insofar as it is true, is at the same time an attenuation of the human capacity for authentic attachment.Let’s compare this to walking up a flight of stairs together. When I was 25, I met my then partner of 23. We were in the same age bracket and were both hard workers. I was, and still am, in awe of her. She is an ambitious go-getter and managed to establish something. I will carry that in my heart with warmth. It is a completely different story from having money, power, fame and status at a certain point, and then having women come knocking on your door who, while being sexually and aesthetically very attractive, have actually seen little of life and cannot relate to your struggles.The analogy of walking up the stairs becomes visible in chess: the king can only move one square at a time whereas the queen sweeps across the entire board. Through their beauty and allure, women have certain ‘social hacks’ in life that allow them to skip large volumes of stairs. Whereas the man must toil away one step at a time to elevate himself, but in that process also loses respect for the damsel who just hovers past him on the basis of social grace and beauty.&nbsp;For a woman you climbed the stairs with, you have much more awe, recognition and reverence than for a ‘groupie’. Any man who is honest with himself will have to admit this in the depths of his heart. Here we are not talking about sexual arousal, but about true love.Cynicism Jim Cambios responded by cynically arguing: “Yes but Sid, I’m 64 now. And a woman who is 64 like me is of no sexual interest to me. Although, of course, I could cherish and value her as a soulmate and life partner. But that is something else. I am a man and live a healthy life: my instincts are still very vital, I embrace life! What more can I say?’Two more comments I will devote to it – bringing this to a close.That first comment is the infamous lesson from the film&nbsp;Doctor Zhivago, which shows us the essence. Before the Russian Revolution, the beautiful Lara Antipova sleeps with a droll liberal parliamentarian. After the revolution, she is suddenly lying next to a tightly-uniformed communist army officer.‘Alpha males’ All those substantive, exhaustive battles around policy and ideology – which also involve a lot of risk – are uninteresting to most women. For them, it is much more important to be able to ‘navigate up socially’ to the new ‘alpha males’ once the revolution has arrived. Aesthetic beauty and social fluency are the most useful qualities for them in this regard.So we come back to the story: a woman may be beautiful, young, comely and slim, but was she really by your side when you were undergoing your toughest trials in life? Or did she come along when the weather was already nice? This determines the depth of the love you can feel for your partner. Or whether the relationship is indeed mostly a cynical transaction after all.Hope Nevertheless, I want to conclude with a beautiful and hopeful piece of interpretation: there is something in true love that you want to discover and develop both in yourself and in the other person. FVD continued its international reach this month with MP Gideon van Meijeren’s trip to Washington DC. He attended the Parliamentary Intelligence and Security Forum which brings together parliamentarians and government officials from around the world. He also travelled outside the city to talk to ordinary people about the threats from immigration and globalist policies.
