The Weekly Forum - 12 September

13 september 2024 | Forum for Democracy Intl

FVD International’s director, John Laughland, was again interviewed on TNT Radio recently, this time with Andrew Eborn and James Freeman, to discuss the political situation in France. The interview was conducted before the appointment of Michel Barnier as prime minister but John correctly predicted that Emmanuel Macron, who has been disavowed in three elections now – the parliamentary elections of 2022 and both the European and parliamentary elections of 2024 – would ensure that the same policies as before remain in place. This has now happened. In other words, however much the French protest against their political class, the uniparty clings to power. Although Barnier is an improvement over Gabriel Attal, this decades-old rule has once again been confirmed.

FVD is keeping up the pressure on the Nord Stream ‘Whodunnit?’ Well, we all know who dunnit and, the clearer that becomes, the more the political class is determined to practise omertà. Omertà is how you cope with the Mafia, who come into your neighbourhood, smash up your windows and then say, ‘You wouldn’t want anything to happen to your kids, now, would you’. This is the standard modus operandi of American foreign policy. FVD party leader Thierry Baudet has tabled questions to the Netherlands government, many of whose ministers proclaimed that the Russians were guilty before they entered government, but who are now strangely silent. Has their silence been bought? Which country really interferes most in our politics? Will we ever get straight answers to these questions?

Forum for Democracy is delighted to announce that it is a founder member of the new Europe of Sovereign Nations party which has been created on the basis of the eponymous group in the European Parliament. By far the biggest party in the new group is Alternative für Deutschland, which has just scored stunning results in Thuringia and Saxony, emerging as the largest party in the first and as the second in the latter. Thierry Baudet signed the accession documents in Brussels recently and to celebrate FVD is organising a festive event on 15 September in grounds of a stately home in the Gelderland countryside. The event will be attended by several leading MEPs from the new group and by the leader of the French party, Reconquête, Eric Zemmour, intellectual superstar and former presidential candidate.

Professor Edouard Husson was our guest at The Forum this week, to discuss his theory of ‘grey fascism’. Husson believes that our current political regimes are genuinely fascist but that their fascism is grey – indeterminate, supported by the older generation (people with grey hair) and sadistic (fifty shades of grey). If you missed it, you can listen back by clicking below.
